We all know the horrible feeling of the afternoon slump. 3 pm rolls around and you’re lacking energy and the will to live. Here are some tips to help you recharge and power through your day!
BEAT THE AFTERNOON SLUMP
You’re 3 coffee’s down and ready to head to the nearest 7-eleven but preservatives throughout the day are bad for health and your wallet.
Avoid afternoon fatigue and raise your energy levels with these tips.
DON’T SKIP BREAKFAST
What you eat for breakfast will set the tone for the rest of your day. I love having a healthy smoothie, fruit or porridge in the morning.
Choose foods that are going to keep you full and release energy throughout the day.
AVOID SUGAR & PRESERVATIVES
When you’re tired and you need a pick me up, a chocolate bar with your coffee might seem appealing. You’ll probably even enjoy it at the time. The spike of energy comes from all the sugar and as fast as it came it will leave.
Only to leave you in a moody, afternoon slump.
Swap out your afternoon chocolate bar with a piece of fruit for sustained energy levels and a natural sugar hit.
CONSUME A SMALLER LUNCH
While it’s a good idea to have a big lunch and a smaller dinner, try to avoid eating too much whilst at work.
Your body will be using up all its energy trying to digest your lunch instead of focusing on your work. By the time 3 pm hits, you’ll be hitting a wall or the floor, whatever comes first.
HYDRATE THROUGHOUT THE DAY
If you’re sitting at a desk all day you might not feel like drinking (the recommended daily intake) 8 glasses of water.
Keep a water bottle on your desk to sip on throughout the day to ward off drowsiness and cravings. It’s also great for flushing out toxins and aiding digestion.
STEP OUT & TAKE A BREAK
It’s recommended that you get up every hour to stretch and do a bit of exercise. This can be hard if you start swinging your arms around like a crazy lady.
I suggest heading out on your lunch break to get some fresh air and vitamin D. If you’re having a hard day, make a call to take your mind off work for a minute and to recuperate.
DRINK GREEN TEA IN PLACE OF COFFEE
Ooh honey, I know this can be hard, you’re not alone. Yet, the benefits of green tea cannot be denied. Green tea is a good way to get a small caffeine hit without getting the shakes or laying awake all night!
If you can’t do the green tea, opt for a black tea or peach tea. There are so many teas out there just waiting for you girl. Go crazy!
These tips will help you to keep your momentum throughout the day and beat the afternoon slump. Start to implement these small changes and they will slowly but surely start to become habits.
