With Easter is just around the corner, it can be hard to avoid all the chocolate and food indulging festivities. Stay on track with these healthy eating habits over Easter.
Everyone is enjoying all the Easter dinners and desserts. The chocolate bunnies, chocolate eggs and of course the chocolate hot cross buns. Who could resist?
It’s all eggs-extremely tempting if you pardon the pun. However, the aftermath can leave us feeling sluggish and regretful.
Let’s enjoy the Easter long weekend but stay on track with these healthy eating habits over Easter.
ENJOY EASTER FOODS IN MODERATION
There is going to be the chocolate temptation during the Easter break, that’s just a given. Remember that everything is ok in moderation.
Portion control is important so instead of eating large chocolate Easter eggs on the hour every hour. Ensure you have other snacking options so that you have the opportunity to make the right choice. Chop up some carrot sticks for the Easter bunny and yourself!
Ensure you are encouraging healthy eating habits by planning to have healthy options on hand.
Stock the fridge with pre-made healthy snacks so that when the kids are reaching for a choco egg you’re practising healthy habits. Reach for a nutritious snack to power you through the long weekend!
DON’T PURCHASE IN BULK
If you’re organised it may already be too late for this one, but try not to purchase large quantities of chocolate or food in general.
There’s nothing more tempting than snacking on leftover Easter eggs, so avoid temptation and don’t buy in bulk.
OPT FOR WHOLE GRAIN HOT CROSS BUNS
I know what you’re thinking I’m basically the Grinch that ruined Easter. They’re not as bad as they sound!
Whole grain anything is always better for you and most of the time you can barely taste the difference. Whole grain hot cross buns contain more fibre, vitamins and minerals. Plus, they’re more filling!
STAY BUSY AND KEEP MOVING
Easter can be a busy time of year, so go with it. Keep moving this easter and you won’t even realise you are burning off those extra calories.
If you’ve gone away this easter, go for a hike and search for the Easter bunny with the kids. Cook up some Easter recipes, set up some Easter decorations and on Easter Sunday there’s always the Easter egg hunt!
PRACTISE HEALTHY EATING HABITS – DON’T SKIP MEALS!
It can be easy to get caught up in the Easter festivities and forget to eat your 3 regular nutritious meals. Maintain healthy eating habits by consuming regular meals. If you do overindulge, don’t skip meals to try and make up for it.
Skipping nutrient-filled meals will just give you cravings in the evenings, and you know what you’ll reach for? That’s right, leftover Easter eggs, don’t do it girl!
