Eyelash extensions are one of the quickest ways to achieve everyday effortless glamour. However, getting eyelash extensions also means having glue and tweezers on your eyes which, can be extremely daunting.
In my Youtube video, I talk about the good and the bad of eyelash extensions. To help you determine whether or not you should invest your money into eyelash extensions.
We’ve all seen the before and after eyelash extensions, pictures, that make us think should we or shouldn’t we invest in eyelash extensions?
WHAT ARE EYELASH EXTENSIONS?
Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent individual synthetic lashes that are applied/glued to your natural lashes.
After application, you MUST wait 24 hours before you can completely immerse them in water.
MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH EYELASH EXTENSIONS
My personal experience with eyelash extensions has been both good and bad. The first set I had done cost me around $120 for a set or natural eyelash extensions in Melbourne. Which, is quite pricey and was one of the reasons I put it off for so long.
Not to say I would suggest getting them done cheaper because you don’t want to have a bad experience when it comes to having tweezers and glue near your eyes.
I did my research and found a place that specialises in eyelash extensions and booked an appointment. Sitting back in the comfortable recliner was the best part of the experience. They apply an under eye patch to tape down your bottom lashes so they don’t get stuck to your top lashes.
The lash artist did my first eye and it was fine, however, when she started on the second eye it started to sting. I’m not sure if she used more glue on this particular eye or if this eye was just more sensitive. Once she was done my eyes were slightly stuck together but she carefully pulled them apart.
Needless to say, it wasn’t a seamless experience however, it turned out ok and my lashes looked a lot longer, thicker and more voluminous.
WHAT LASH SET / STYLE SHOULD I GET?
You want to make sure you choose the right eyelash extensions set for your eye shape. The difference between the sets is the number of lashes applied, the duration of the appointment, and more importantly the price.
They are customisable so try to determine whether you want a doll or a cat eye appearance. Most salons will carry extension lengths from 9 to 15mm (or, from natural to Kardashian length).
HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?
If you look after your eyelash extensions they can last for the full life of your natural lashes, which is usually around 4-6 weeks.
Do They Damage Your Natural Lashes?
The short answer is yes. Before I got lash extensions I had naturally long and curled lashes. I was super upset once all the false eyelashes fell out and my natural lashes were short and straight but don’t fret!
Your lashes are continuously falling out and regrowing, so over time my natural lashes have gone back to normal and so will yours. I suggest eyelash rehabilitation, which is giving your lashes a rest in between getting eyelash extensions. As well as, coating them with vaseline or coconut oil to nurture them back to health.
THE PROS OF EYELASH EXTENSIONS
1. They are a lazy girl’s best friend.
If you’re someone who likes to just wake up and go, eyelash extensions are for you! They are a great time saver with no need for much primp and priming in the mornings.
2. You feel a lot more confident about not wearing makeup.
You will feel a lot more confident waking up and leaving the house, going to the gym etc without wearing any makeup.
3. They Look Amazing!
If they are done properly, you are going to look glamorous 24/7 will little to no effort.
THE CONS OF EYELASH EXTENSIONS
1. I personally don’t enjoy the process.
Just like getting your nails or hair done I don’t enjoy sitting for so long. While some enjoy laying back having eyelash extensions applied and view this as an acceptable time to nap. I don’t find it to be a particularly enjoyable experience.
2. It’s harder to apply your eye makeup.
It’s basically like applying your false eyelashes first, which of course would make it harder to apply eyeliner and eyeshadow.
3. No makeup remover or oils.
You can’t use any skincare or makeup remover with oil in it as it will loosen the glue and cause the eyelash extensions to fall out prematurely.
AFTER EYELASH EXTENSIONS / LASH CARE
After having eyelash extensions I would suggest giving your eyelashes time to recover before getting another set applied. This will prevent any permanent damage to your lashes.
After having eyelash extensions apply Vaseline or some coconut oil to your natural lashes every night before bed. This helped me get my natural eyelashes back to normal after a couple of months.
