6 Tips for Self-Care During The Holidays

It is the first week of December and the Christmas tree is well and truly up and the carols are a playing! The holidays are an amazing time of the year but I want you all to remember to practise self-care during the holidays.

6 Tips for Self-Care During The Holidays

As women, we tend to want to make everything special and amazing for everyone else. Even if this means we don’t take care of ourselves.

This leads to my first tip for self-care during the holidays and that is…

To Give Yourself Permission

It’s natural to feel selfish or guilty whenever we practise self-care but give yourself permission. Give yourself permission to say “no” to after work drinks, to say “no” hosting Christmas this year or to say “no” to overspending on Christmas gifts.

Take the time to really think about what’s important to you. What values and traditions do you want to uphold this year?

Christmas is about spending time with loved ones, it’s about understanding and balance but it’s also about doing what’s best for you.

What are you going to give yourself permission for this Christmas?

Let Yourself Indulge

This time of year is filled with Christmas parties and events. Family dinners with delicious food, drinks and conversation, all presenting the opportunity to indulge. This isn’t the time to get caught up on ‘having control’ or losing weight.

This also doesn’t mean you should binge on Christmas pudding for two weeks. It means that you should allow yourself the treats that you love without feeling guilty about it. The holidays only last for around two weeks and there are 52 weeks in a year.

So take a break and just enjoy yourself would ya! What are some of your favourite holiday treats?

Give Up Expectations

When we have expectations over the holidays we put unnecessary pressure on ourselves. We want everything to be magical and run smoothly but when things don’t go as planned we start to stress.

Our anxiety starts to kick in and things start to turn into a real shit show. Sound familiar?

When we relinquish the idea of making sure everything is perfect, we’re able to ebb and flow. Choose to move with the changes and you’ll be able to truly enjoy each moment.

What moments are you most excited about this Christmas?

Find A Balance

It’s nearing the end of the year and all we want to do is finish work and enjoy the holidays. We start to neglect things like healthy eating and exercise habits, our regular sleeping patterns and self-care routines.

Not only this, but our budgets become blown out for the festivities and as we try to spoil loved ones.

To avoid added stress, don’t throw all of your rituals, values and self-care practises out the window. Find a balance in your day to day and stick to your normal routine where possible.

What is a ritual you can’t live without? I do my daily skincare routine no matter what!

Give Yourself Some “Me Time”

Giving yourself 10 minutes of “me time” will allow you to lower your stress levels and come back to earth.

If you’re Christmas shopping take a 10-minute coffee break. On Christmas day have a nap after lunch or meditate for 10 minutes. If you don’t have enough time to exercise head outside for a brisk walk.

Remember to give yourself permission to stop, breath and practise self-love.

What do you love doing to step away from the hustle and bustle?

The Gift Of Gratitude

Whilst we can get easily caught up in the amazing gifts and food that comes with Christmas. We must remember to practise gratitude.

It’s important to remember that not everyone is having a ‘Merry Christmas’. Some struggle with depression or anxiety over the holiday period. Some may have lost loved ones, jobs or are facing financial difficulty.

Give yourself the gift of gratitude this year and experience the true meaning of Christmas. You’ll find yourself feeling happier, stronger and more fulfilled.

What are you grateful for these holidays?

Wherever you are in your life this year, take care of yourself first. Practice self-love and gratitude to experience the true meaning of Christmas.

Wishing you love and light over the holidays and during the new year!
