You can plan for your day as much as you’d like but sometimes when a bad day hits it’s hard to turn things around. There is nothing worse than feeling like shit because even the smallest things can become overwhelming.
I’m here to tell you that you’re not alone. When I filmed this video I was feeling like absolute rubbish. I had planned a huge day the night before and it just didn’t go the way I had planned.
However, I knew that I didn’t want to like how I was feeling get the better of me so I started taking steps towards turning my bad day into a good one, here’s how I did it.
Journaling is still quite new to me. So for me, it is simply writing down everything I’m feeling until I come to a better understanding of what’s going on in my head.
Journaling helps get everything out of your head, off of your shoulders and into the book in front of you so that you can assess what could be triggering you to feel this way.
Play with Animals – It’s Good for Your Health!
Petting an animal can dramatically improve your mood.
That’s why therapy pets are so important for some because animals to help with healing. Even though owning a pet has been shown to improve self-esteem and well-being, you don’t have to have one to reap the benefits.
Go for a walk to the park and there are bound to be plenty of pets that will welcome our petting and cuddles. Talking to the owner is also a great way to get your mind off things.
Make a Mental Decision
Once you’ve journaled everything down I want you to make a mental decision between.
- I’m going to turn things around and take the steps to work towards feeling better or…
- I’m not feeling strong enough to fight this bad feeling right now and I’m going to take a mental health day – and that’s ok!
If you’re not feeling up to it, sometimes we just need a glass of wine and some chocolate and to binge watch some Netflix. Other times we don’t have an option and we have to start feeling better to get shit done, be there for our kids or go to work. Whatever the case may be.
At least once you make a decision you relieve a bit of pressure and can work towards the goal of either relaxing or feeling better. If you’re working towards feeling better, start with…
Keeping Yourself Busy
Whatever keeping busy means to you, you need to keep your brain or body occupied to try and distract yourself from feeling like poo. We don’t want to cover up the underlying issues you might be having but keeping yourself busy it just like waiting out the storm.
Things to keep you busy:
- Getting some exercise
- Listen to a favourite song and sing along
- Take a bubble bath or shower
- Watch a movie
- Walk barefoot through the grass
- Start writing a book or song
- Start a blog or YouTube channel
Anything that sparks joy in your soul and helps take your mind off things.
Call a Friend or Family Member
This is a great tip especially if you are alone whilst having a bad day and can’t meet up with anyone – chatting things out with a friend or family member can:
- Help take your mind off things
- Help you resolve how you’re feeling and why
Hydrate and Eat Good Foods
Half the time when I’m angry or upset it’s because I’m either tired, dehydrated or hangry! Nothing some good food and a good nights rest can’t resolve.
I know sometimes a bad day can feel like the end of the world but it’s not. Just remember that tomorrow is a new fresh start to achieve your goals!
Even if you’re having a shitty WEEK (because it happens) don’t give up, keep making moves towards a happier and healthier you every day.
